Icons of Industry Recognizes Susheel Ladwa as a Healthcare Icon 2026
Onyx Health CEO recognized for advancing healthcare interoperability and building the data foundation AI depends on.

Icons of Industry today announced that Susheel Ladwa, Chief Executive Officer of Onyx Health, has been recognized as a Healthcare Icon 2026 for his leadership in advancing healthcare interoperability and building the data foundation artificial intelligence depends on.
A self-described technologist who began his career writing code, Ladwa spent nearly three decades in healthcare technology leadership at Wipro, EDS, HP Enterprise Services, and IBM, helping scale Wipro's healthcare practice into a business exceeding $250 million in revenue, before founding Onyx Health. Under his leadership, Onyx built Blue Button 2.0 for CMS, one of the largest interoperability platforms in the world, and the company's proprietary platform, OnyxOS, now helps health plans and providers become FHIR-enabled at scale.
Ladwa has been recognized for this work with multiple industry honors, including being named CXO Magazine's Most Strategic CEO to Follow in 2025 and one of Inc Magazine's 10 Most Inspiring CEOs to Follow in 2023. He also chaired the IT Advisory Group for America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) for nearly a decade and continues to serve as a Contributing Editor for DistilINFO Publications.
As part of this recognition, Ladwa is featured in an exclusive Icons of Industry Leadership Conversation, “Speed of Light: Rethinking What's Possible in Connected Healthcare,” where he discusses why he believes most health plans underestimate the data foundation they've already built through CMS's Patient Access API rule, why 40 to 50 percent of prior authorization requests his clients see are unnecessary “just in case” submissions, and why he believes AI-native startups, not large incumbents, will define the next era of healthcare technology.
In the feature, Ladwa discusses why most health plans still don't realize the value of the data foundation they built complying with CMS's Patient Access API mandate.
The feature also explores why Ladwa believes CMS's 0057-F prior authorization rule is at a genuine tipping point, what patient accountability gaps explain disappointing Patient Access API adoption, and the leadership lessons that shaped Onyx's culture, including its internal mantra to operate at the “speed of light.”
Ladwa will also be featured as part of the upcoming Healthcare Icons Showcase in New York City's Times Square, celebrating leaders whose ideas and contributions continue to shape the future of healthcare.

“Susheel Ladwa has spent his career on the same underlying problem, healthcare data that lives in silos and organizations that move too slowly because of it. What sets his leadership apart is a genuine conviction that speed itself, not any single new technology, is what will separate the organizations that adapt from the ones that get disrupted. His recognition as a Healthcare Icon reflects both that conviction and the scale of the platforms he has built to act on it.”View the feature
